The Cape Innovation and Technology Initiative (CiTi) established in 1998 as Africa’s first tech incubator, has continued to be at the forefront of innovation in South Africa by playing a catalytic role at all critical digital and innovation touch points of the economy. Their incubation programmes have supported thousands of entrepreneurs in growing their businesses and contributing towards the local economy. CiTi's CapaCiTi tech career accelerator programme is arguably South Africa's leading youth tech career accelerator, having recently scaled up to train and place nearly 3000 young people in the near future.
Overall cost
Free. NB: Although there is not an immediate cost for successful candidates, graduates are expected to pay forward their training costs once they are employed. For example, the pay-it-forward cost for the Java Launch programme was (at the time the source published the news) R16,000.00 for the skills training and coaching, and an additional R9,000.00 travel allowance.Once a student in the programme is settled in their first job, they will need to pay back the training costs in affordable instalments every month, relative to their earnings. This pay-back then goes directly towards training of further young South Africans in the programme. Flexible payment options available: pay-it-forward model with monthly instalments. Courses have an estimated cost between R30,000.00 and R60,000.00
